Portrait of Andrew Bell, Data Engineer for Oklahoma Data Exchange

Andrew Bell
Data Engineer

Andrew was born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, and moved to Oklahoma in 2016 to study political science and history at the University of Oklahoma. After completing his undergraduate studies in 2019, he stuck around at OU to earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration, while also working as a research assistant at OU’s Center for Risk and Crisis Management.

From 2021 through 2025, he worked as a data analyst and engineer at the Oklahoma Policy Institute. While there, he [fought off legislative attempts to undo State Question 780](https://okpolicy.org/fact-check-has-oklahomas-larceny-rate-skyrocketed-since-sq-780-was-passed-in-2016-no/), [tracked death penalty cases across the state](https://okpolicy.org/oklahoma-death-penalty-tracker/), and assisted the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Advisory Council in [their efforts to reduce overcrowding and improve conditions at the Oklahoma county jail](https://dashboard.cjac.okpolicy.dev/).

Andrew is based in the OKC area. He is a big fan of the University of Kansas Jayhawks, the Oklahoma City Thunder, bluegrass and rap music, the R statistical programming language, and free and open source software (not necessarily in that order).
